According to Wikipedia a “15-minute city is a residential urban concept in which most daily necessities can be accomplished by either walking or cycling from residents’ homes.”
The concept has been described as a “return to a local way of life”.
If you’re looking to buy or rent a home in Fitzrovia, or move your business into an office in Fitzrovia, you might wonder if the neighbourhood qualifies.
Well, we believe that it definitely does. In fact, I’d go further and say that Fitzrovia is the most complete 15-minute neighbourhood in London.
Why’s that you wonder?
Let’s start with the residential side. There is a large selection of properties available to buy or rent in Fitzrovia, from start-out studios and one-beds to good two-bedrooms and onto family houses and swanky penthouses.
Accommodation ticked off, what about getting to work. The beauty of Fitzrovia is that it’s a truly mixed neighbourhood, with a strong office market. Along with a plentiful supply of offices for SMEs, there are some serious players who occupy large office spaces in the area. Netflix, Estée Lauder and Boston Consulting all have HQs in Fitzrovia, along with those from renowned architects’ firms, large fashion brands and some big finance/private equity houses.
So that’s sorted, you’ve got a place to live and a place to work all within 15 mins of each other. Next.
As my kids are fond of saying… ”I’m hungry!!”. No problem here. Fitzrovia has a huge selection of eateries. There are all-day, European-style restaurants on Charlotte Street, Mortimer Street and Great Titchfield Street. There are specialist restaurants covering a positive feast of different flavours (and animals!), along with street food markets in Goodge Place and a number of traditional cafés serving a proper breakfast…there are even two Greggs! Variety is definitely not an issue.
Prefer to cook…. not a problem. There’s a Sainsbury’s on Mortimer Street, two Tesco’s on New Cavendish Street and Goodge Street, an M&S Simply Food on Tottenham Court Road and every landlord’s favourite anchor tenant, Lidl.
So you won’t go hungry, and you’ve got a place to sleep and work.
What do you want to do next? “A picnic” you say. Easy. I reckon The Regents Park (you can’t drop the the) is pretty much a 15 mins walk from anywhere in Fitzrovia. This tranquil hub of greenery is ideal for your picnic, or yoga session, morning run or dog walk. There’s also Soho Square and Whitfield Gardens nearby, both of which are public green spaces.
If you don’t fancy that run, there are a multitude of gyms in Fitzrovia, catering for every specialism. And if you’re stuck for something to wear, there’s also a thriving fashion scene down at Market Place and on Great Titchfield Street.
Religion is well catered for too, with places of worship for all the main religions, and a few more.
In short, there’s never a need to leave this thriving multi-cultural 15 min city. And this is what attracts people from all over the world who want to live and work in Fitzrovia.
If you’re reading this and you’ve not visited then make-sure you do, and if you need a tour guide just remember…LDG know Fitzrovia better than the rest!
